Northern Lights Mini-Fest 2012
The Northern Lights MiniFest is a showcase event for chamber musicians born or based in Northern Ireland. The inaugural MiniFest took place in November 2011, as part of Belfast Music Week.
The 2012 Northern Lights MiniFest took place in the week of 5-10 November.
Cantabile String Quartet

BMS was delighted to feature the Cantabile String Quartet, with Belfast cellist David Sloan, recent finalists at the Sandor Vegh String Quartet Competition in Budapest. This short concert included music by Mozart, Haydn, Wolf and Lajtha and acted as a ‘taster’ and ticket booking opportunity for the 2013 International Festival of Chamber Music.

One of Northern Ireland’s most exciting young opera singers, Aoife appeared in last year’s Northern Ireland Opera production of Hansel and Gretel. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Music this year, and joined the International Young Artists Programme at Cologne Opera House in September.
Programme included Schubert’s Gretchen am Spinnrade, and music by Britten, Walton, Grieg, Messiaen and Massenet.

In 2008, at the age of 12, Belfast-born Peter Moore became the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musicians Competition. Already ‘a soloist of the very front rank’ (International Record Review), Peter made a welcome return to Belfast with his regular duo partner. Music was by Sulek, Larsson, Pryor and Casterede.
