Bach Unseen: David McCann & Guests
The evening begins with Bach’s beloved Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, performed by a solo cellist in traditional concert lighting.
As the final notes fade, the space is transformed. Darkness envelops the room and three cellists emerge within a new work inspired by Bach’s suite. Drawing on fragments, gestures and resonances from the original music, the performers gradually move throughout the space, continuously altering their relationship to one another and to the audience.
Without visual reference points, sound becomes fluid and unpredictable. Melodies appear at a distance, echoes emerge from unexpected directions, and familiar material is reshaped through movement and perspective. The work invites listeners to experience music not as a fixed object on a stage, but as a living presence unfolding all around them.
