Event Details

We kick off this year’s Northern Lights Mini-Fest with one of the UK’s most distinguished ensembles, the Maggini Quartet, which was joined recently by young Belfast violinist Ciaran McCabe.

Formed in 1988, the Maggini Quartet is one of the finest British string quartets. Their acclaimed recordings have won international awards including Gramophone Chamber Music Award of the Year, Diapason d’Or of the Year and a Cannes Classical Award, and have twice been nominated for Grammy Awards. They are renowned for their interpretations of British repertoire, and include Britten’s Three Divertimenti in their Mini-Fest programme.

A founder member of the Cavaleri quartet (previous visitors to the Mini-Fest), Ciaran McCabe is active as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician and was previously a winner of the Arts Council’s Young Artists’ Platform.
