‘The death is announced of Elizabeth McKisack, Mountpleasant, Stranmillis, who for many years was an outstanding personality in musical circle in Northern Ireland. She was one of the pioneers, in collaboration with the late Dr Lawrence Walker, in establishing chamber music concerts in Belfast, the concerts being generally held at Queen’s College (now Queen’s University). She was unique at that time as a local Lieder singer and an exponent of classical music. She studied at the Royal Academy, London, and was a pupil of Alberto Randegger, who was a leading teacher of music in London. Latterly she had collaborated with Mr Plunkett Greene. Miss McKisack was one of the pioneers of the Belfast musical competitions, and gave valuable service as a member of the committee. She was also one of the founders of the Belfast branch of the British Music Society.’ (Northern Whig)
